The Delhi District Court Judges through the Judicial Service Association have filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre, High Court, and Delhi Government to expedite the availability of sufficient number of suitable and appropriate government residential accommodations for occupancy of all Delhi Judicial Services Officers and Delhi Higher Judicial Services Officers, in terms of the judgments of the Supreme Court in All India Judges' Association Vs. Union of India [1991] INSC 291,  All India Judges Association Vs. Union of India & Ors [1994] INSC 241.

A single-judge bench of Acting Judge Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora has issued notices to all three respondents and sought their reply within four weeks.

The petition highlights that nearly half of the District Judges have not been provided any official residential accommodation, which reflects the abysmal state of affairs.

It has been pointed out that the HRA provided by the government is 'grossly inadequate' leaving the Judges to fend for themselves as they find it difficult to hunt houses in the national capital and are thus forced to look for the same in NCR regions of Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad which adds to commute difficulty.

The petition further compares the residential accommodations provided to the Central and State pools which outnumbers the Judicial pool.

The matter has been posted on July 16th for the next hearing.
